About

The Ci3 Youth Advisory Council is comprised of young people ages 14-18 from across Chicago and meets regularly to advise, consult, and inform Ci3 research projects. The mission of the Youth Advisory Council is to ensure that Ci3’s research and interventions reflect the lived experiences of the populations we serve—primarily young people of color. Council members are key thought partners throughout our project design and development process and are encouraged to be vocal and proactive participants during meetings. The Council meets regularly throughout the academic year.

“It helped me notice disparities and issues in the health world, especially when it comes to teenagers, which just showed me ways I can improve it.”

2019-20 Ci3 Youth Council member

Ci3’s regular meetings with Council members include creative skill-building workshops, structured research activities, and professional development sessions. We use Ci3 methods such as storytelling, game play and development, and participatory design to build a community for young people where members feel safe, seen, and heard.

“Our opinions were valued and were actually implemented into the projects that Ci3 was working on. There was never a “wrong idea;” it was a safe place to voice your opinions and thoughts which always led to insightful discussions.”

This Ain’t It Zine

We are proud to present This Ain’t It, an online publication written and designed by the 2019-20 Ci3 Youth Advisory Council.

By sharing these stories with you, we hope to shift the conversation from talking about young Black and Brown people toward talking with them. We envision a world in which all young people emerge into adulthood with agency over their bodies and futures, and we will continue to work toward that world—because, as our council has told us, this ain’t it. Not yet, anyway.

Please join us in amplifying the voices of our Youth Advisory Council by sharing This Ain’t It with your network and engaging with us on our Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook channels.
